This is the only episode
Cary and Daisy worked on a case together.
Lyman: Excuse me, Ms. Lloyd ... Mrs. Hargrove's
got something. Besides, of course, a bigger salary than me.
Daisy: (Laughs.) Thanks, Lyman.
Cary: You gotta know that's no way to
get a raise.
Lyman: Yeah, but I gotta smile.
Cary: I asked Lyman to drive me to the
airport tomorrow night. He told me he'd love to but he couldn't
cancel his weekly poker game. So I had Rita cancel it.
After Daisy has been knocked
out while in Cary's office after hours ...
Cary: You okay?
Daisy: (Very emotional.) No.
Cary: If it helps, I believe these events
are connected. I've postponed my trip to New York.
Daisy: You didn't believe I was being followed.
Cary: (Sighs.) Well, I was wrong, Daisy.
You're not going to hold that against me, are you? (He goes to
her.) One minute I'm not worrying enough, the next minute I'm
worrying too much. I'm only human, damn it. (Daisy turns away
and Cary takes her by the arms so she'll face him.) I hate the
idea of you being hurt. I really do. (Cary wipes the tears off
Daisy's cheek. He looks at her, then kisses her, but quickly
pulls back before pulling her into a tight embrace. They hold
each other tightly as the scene fades out.)
Lyman, Cary, and Daisy
all walk out of Cary's house ...
Cary: Well ... at
last I'm off to New York.
Daisy: And I hope you have a wonderful
time. Enjoy those four Broadway plays.
Cary: Three. (Confused, Daisy looks over
at him.) One already closed.
Daisy: Oh ... sorry.
Cary: Hey, you saved me from seeing a
flop.
Daisy: And you saved me from ... I don't
know what.
Cary: From handling a very difficult case
alone. Though I'm sure you could have done it.
Daisy: That means a lot to me.
Cary: What? My having confidence in you?
Daisy: No. That you sometimes lie.
(They both laugh.)
Cary: You know, I actually had a lot of
fun working on this case with you.
Daisy: And I enjoyed it, too.
Cary: But now I'm off on a new case.
Daisy: And I'm off on another.
Cary: Hmmm. (He kisses her cheek.) I guess
that's the way it should be.
Daisy: Of the way it is.
Cary: Yeah, well ... (They wrap their
arms around each other as they walk to Cary's car.) ... maybe
someday we'll do it again.
Lyman: Do what again?
Cary: Wouldn't you like to know.
(Cary and Daisy grin at Lyman.)
