Some of the scenes during
Daisy's story take place at L.A.'s Griffith Observatory with
a great view of the the city and the Hollywood sign. There are
also several scenes on the studio backlot as Kevin is shown working
on his next picture.
Cary: (To Rita.) Is Daisy in?
Rita: I'm sorry, Cary, but she's already
left for her appointment with Kevin Curtis.
Cary: Oh, right ... right. Yeah ... that
new young actor. I understand he's very good.
Lyman: Oh, come on ... acting is something
anyone can do. (He stands up.) To be ... or not to be ... that
is the question. (He grins at Cary.) Now I ask you ... what's
Kevin Curtis got that I don't?
(Cary thinks about it for a moment.)
Cary: Talent?
(Lyman frowns and clears his throat as Cary finally smiles at
him.)
Lyman: Uhhh ... excuse me, Ms. Lloyd. I
believe you wanted Emma Tate's home address.
(Lyman hands Daisy a slip of paper.)
Daisy: You even found out her last name.
Lyman: I just called up the company and
pretended I was interested in hiring Emma and that I needed to
check out some of her references. You see, I told them her handwriting
was so bad, I couldn't make out her full name.
Cary: You mean you lied to get it?
Lyman: Yeah. Well, I kinda like to think
of it as ... acting, ya know?
Cary: Really? What kind of acting?
Daisy: The kind of acting that deserves
an Academy Award.
Lyman: Oh, thanks Ms. Lloyd. (He looks
at Cary.) Ya know, it's nice to know there's someone around here
who can recognize real talent.
(Lyman leaves and Cary and Daisy look at each other, then laugh.)
(Daisy walks into Cary's
office.)
Daisy: In my hand I hold two tickets to
tomorrow night's premiere performance of Kevin Curtis' movie
... compliments of the star himself. Would you like to be my
escort?
Cary: Well, I'm flattered you asked and
delighted to accept.
Daisy: Good.
Cary: What time shall I pick you up?
Daisy: No, no ... this time I'm picking
you up. And in a limousine.
Cary: Well ... also compliments of the
star?
Daisy: Not exactly. It's Lyman's limo.
Cary: Lyman's limo? Where did he get a
limousine?
(Lyman enters through the patio doors.)
Lyman: Now before you go thinking that
I stole it, let me assure you it's only mine each night.
Daisy: Lyman Whittaker is moonlighting
as a limo driver.
Lyman: Hey ... well, after a life in crime,
Mr. Maxwell, I can't very well get by on what you shell out each
week.
(Daisy laughs.)
Cary: Lyman, I'm really impressed with
your energy and hard work. How did you get this job?
(Lyman hesitates and looks at his watch.)
Lyman: Uhhh ...
Daisy: Tell him, Lyman ...
Lyman: Easy ... I just told them, umm ...
I was Mr. Maxwell's driver at Maxwell Limited.
Cary: Hmmm ... no one called for references.
Lyman: Sure they did.
Cary: I didn't talk to anyone. (He looks
over at Daisy.) Did you, Daisy?
Daisy: No need to ... when they called,
Mr. Whittaker just pretended to be you.
Cary: Lyman ... ?
Lyman: (Grins.) And you said I had no acting
ability.
