"Finder of Lost Loves" premiered on ABC's 1984-85
program schedule on September 22, 1984, following "Love
Boat" in the 10:00 - 11:00 p.m. EST time slot on Saturday
nights. A Douglas Cramer-Aaron Spelling Production, it was produced
by Jeffrey Hayes for the Spelling Ventures Organization production
company. Series creator Gail Parent received her inspiration
for the show after reading about real-life "finder'' Lloyd
Shulman during an airplane flight.
The theme song was written by Burt
Bacharach and Carole Bayer-Sager and sung as a duet by Dionne
Warwick and Luther Vandross during the first half of the season,
then Dionne teamed up with Glenn Jones for the second half and
that version showed up on her "Finder of Lost Loves"
album.
The costumes were by designer Nolan Miller of "Dynasty"
fame. Daisy appeared in several gorgeous evening gowns throughout
the season, but most of Nolan's designs were more subtle for
this show's business-like atmosphere. Even though usually dressed
in business suits, Rita and especially Daisy always looked classically
elegant.
"Finder of Lost Loves" was canceled in late spring
of 1985, but was repeated throughout that summer. The last show
was August 24, 1985 when a rerun of the 90-minute pilot earned
a 14.5 rating (27 share) and was the 15th overall most-watched
show of the week.
