1) "Mr. Big"
Smart must prevent Mr. Big from destroying the country's major cities if he does not receive 100 million dollars in ransom. Mr. Big, who has captured Professor Dante, plans to make good his threat with Professor Dante's Inthermo, a doomsday machine.
2) "Our Man in Toyland"
Smart makes contact with a saleswoman in the cosmetics department. The store's manager, Mr. Bunny, a KAOS kingpin, soon becomes suspicious of Smart.
3) "KAOS in Control"
Smart is in charge of maximum-security measures for the arrival of six top scientists scheduled to meet at CONTROL headquarters, which seems to have been infiltrated by KAOS.
4) "School Days"
Smart enrolls in CONTROL'S espionage training school as Alexander Loomis to learn the identity of a KAOS infiltrator. He makes contact with Agent 99, who has been planted in the school's processing department to help him crack the case.

The KAOS leader tricks the Chief into sending all CONTROL agents except Max and Agent 99 to Fort Knox. When Seigfried is introduced to the convention as "defector of the year" he throws "sleeping dust" into the air and all promptly fall asleep, with Max helpless to stop the world's biggest kidnapping.
